BIO

As CEO of independent creative agency Eleven Inc., Courtney is the steward of the agency’s vision, culture, and success. Under his leadership, Eleven has grown as an agency known for translating business, brand, and product strategy into design experiences, creative content, and social conversations for clients such as Apple, Virgin America, Dignity Health, and Google. His eleven years at the helm helped lead Eleven to be named a global Small Agency of the Year by Advertising Age.

Throughout his career, Courtney has worked for a variety of San Francisco’s smaller and larger creative agencies, learning to integrate solutions across disciplines from advertising, media, PR, digital, design, and data—helping him cultivate a diverse skill set that uniquely positioned him to lead the Eleven family.

Courtney began his career at Young & Rubicam and has held senior leadership positions at Goodby Silverstein & Partners, Anderson & Lembke, and Leagas Delaney. As EVP and General Manager at McCann Erickson, Courtney grew the San Francisco office from a medium-sized ad shop to a global communications hub—with a team of 700 people doing business in 40 countries for clients like Microsoft and HP.

Courtney is a regular on the international industry speaker circuit, taking the stage at conferences such as DMexco, Web Summit, Modern Marketing Summit, and the 4A’s Accelerate. He also serves on the board of the Haas School of Business at the University of California, Berkeley and teaches MBA students at Haas when time allows.
