Vert is looking for a Creative Team Lead

Job Description

Vert is looking to level up our creative team and practice with a new leader. Currently, we’re an accomplished creative team of illustrators, animators, photographers, copywriters, creative strategists, and generally badass designers (if we do say so ourselves). We have all the ingredients, and we need a master chef to make the most of them.

You’re an experienced thinker, doer, and leader with a portfolio of great work that’s driven real business results for consumer brands. You’ve got an eye for design, a mind for collaboration, and the drive to continually push creative boundaries. You have an unquenchable thirst for knowledge, the ability to think strategically, and know that nothing’s really ever “done” on digital.

As our Creative Team Lead, you’ll be responsible for leading the successful delivery of client work, effective cross-team collaboration, and the growth of individuals and Vert’s creative practice at large. This role is 25% art director, 25% designer, 25% people leader, 25% business strategist, and 110% pushing-folks-outside-of-their-comfort-zone.

Day in and day out, you’ll work closely with other members of the Design team and the Strategy team to create deliverables that are on-brand and creatively exciting for both the client and target audience. Some of the things you’ll be working on include creative concepting, organic social feed and story posts, paid media campaigns, email campaigns, websites, photo editing, and that’s just the beginning.

Our ideal candidate is a self-starter, a killer collaborator, and an innovator at heart. We need someone who can find solutions to creative problems and has a growing portfolio of projects to back it up. You must be proficient in the Adobe Creative Suite, and some knowledge of Sketch, After Effects, or Invision is a plus. You must also welcome the opportunity to step out from behind your monitor to lead brainstorming sessions, pitch new ideas to clients, and guide our Creative team’s growth and success.

This person will be responsible for:

  • Relentlessly innovating, iterating, and delivering best-in-class creative work for clients across a wide range of industry verticals and digital marketing channels
  • Serving as a direct contributor on key client projects
  • Providing strategic creative direction to designers, copywriters, and developers to produce goal-oriented, audience-first deliverables
  • Collaborating with Media, CRM, and Development teams to facilitate and execute the production of creative assets for a wide variety of digital channels and formats
  • Leading creative discussions internally and with clients
  • Managing the growth, development, bandwidth, and contributions of junior team members through direct supervision
  • Representing and advocating for the Creative team’s perspective and value in conversations with team and agency leadership
  • Bringing excitement and insight-backed ideas to clients across industry verticals (including but not limited to Real Estate, Restaurants, Consumer Packaged Goods, and Home Improvement)
  • Proactively seeking out feedback and opportunities to learn and grow, with an entrepreneurial, self-motivated mindset

This person must be able to:

  • Deliver a portfolio of work showcasing a knowledge of design principles including color theory, typography, hierarchy, and digital proficiency
  • Navigate the Adobe Creative Suite like a pro (because you are one, of course)
  • Proactively speak to rationale for creative decisions
  • Take and apply feedback from multiple stakeholders while remaining on-deadline and on-brand
  • Collaborate, communicate, and delegate effectively
  • Handle multiple projects and tasks concurrently
  • Produce creative deliverables that drive business results

Bonus points for any of the following:

  • The ability to direct a photoshoot – you aren’t afraid to stand behind the camera
  • A willingness to write – while this person may not create long form copy for clients, they understand the power of a good headline and the concept mocks they create don’t often feature the words ‘Lorem Ipsum’.
  • An understanding and appreciation for code – while this person may not be able to write production code, they know the difference between CSS and Javascript and they’re not afraid to right-click, inspect and have a conversation with developers about it.
  • Experience identifying and directing other talented freelance designers, illustrators or animators to bring a creative idea to life
  • Experience looking at data from campaigns through a creative lens, finding insights and using them to inform new ideas
  • The ability to build a UI design system and create a prototype in Sketch, Figma or XD

Additional Notes:
We’re currently working remotely and expect some or all of this individual’s onboarding to occur remotely, but the position will likely require at least a part-time presence at Vert HQ in the future, so applicants should be based in or willing to relocate to Atlanta.
